According to a senior military official, the American military executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military presence.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amid Scrutiny

The government has encountered increasing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
