The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
