The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the need for a distinct direction.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Here is the complete text from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all excited to keep seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

David
