Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
