Starting XI

The goalkeeper Had little to do required in the first half before forced to intervene by Arbër Hoxha’s curled attempt. His sliding tackle on Qazim Laci showed sharp anticipation. Six out of ten

The tall defender A nuisance at set pieces, as always, perhaps is an alternative for Stones at the back as opposed to his partner. A loose ball later in the match nearly resulted in a goal from Albania. Six

The young full-back One more confident display from the 20-year-old after his initial appearance versus another side. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of a clever backheel behind the opposing backline. The left-back spot is firmly his at this stage. 7

Adam Wharton His first start for his country. Somewhat careless when playing out though his whipped set-pieces posed a danger. A useful game manager for the coach to have against sides that sit back. Cautioned after a reckless foul. Six

The midfielder Deliveries on corner kicks and set-plays created chances. Had room to move down the left flank only to be offside upon receiving in shooting positions. Awarded a merited rest on the hour mark. 6

Jude Bellingham Functioned in a forward role on the right and also did plenty of defensive duties. Displayed flashes of quality and dragged an effort wide. Replaced in the closing stages by Rogers, his competition, after receiving a caution. 7

The winger Was presented with the team's clearest opportunity of the first half, his shot excellently kept out from Thomas Strakosha. As Quansah staying deep, it fell to him to provide width down the right side yet his deliveries from wide areas were inconsistent. Taken off for the final quarter-hour. 6/10

The captain The decisive figure with his two more strikes at international level. The opener a typical poacher’s finish and the second a superb finish with his head following a clever run away from the opposition. Aged 32, he’s only getting better and England stand a real opportunity in future competitions with him leading the line. Eight

The attacker Had difficulty to get into the game from the left. Had a decent opportunity following a pass by Bellingham yet the keeper made the save. Rashford made much more of effect in his place. 5
