It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if we do, we believe we can do it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
